Blog from Davy! New tour, new band - & apologies.

Hey there!
Sorry for the lack of blogs on here, but wow things have been busy! I promise to keep you all much more updated in future. ..
Ive got loads to talk about here, the first thing being the Chickenfoot tour - Wow! What an experience. Although it,s tough being an opening act playing solo acoustic (especially in front of a loud rock n roll band!) I had a wail of a time. Not only are Mr. Hagar, Mr. Anthony, Mr. Satriani and Mr. Smith incredible musicians (and make a seriously superb band!) but the nicest of people too: demonstrated in the latest flickr pics by them graciously plugging my new CD!
One of the toughest things about this tour (which was only 3 gigs in total for me) was flying in to each show. It meant late nights and early mornings, and although it was brief, I was knackered at the end of it! My thanks go to all the Chicken foot guys (and their crew) for being so accommodating, and making it such a wonderful touring experience for me!
So what happened after Chickenfoot? Well, I flew straight up to Seattle and started to rehearse with my band and get ready for this summer’s tour! You can see from the pic just how busy we were
Myself, PK on Bass and Steven Barci on drums have a string of great gigs lined up, that we are tremendously excited about. You might’ve noticed we’ve had to change some gigs around lately, and have even had to lose a few from the tour; my sincerest apologies to those who have planned to come and see me at a show that got cancelled. I read everything that gets posted up here, and I feel terrible about it. To ‘gotdablues’ I understand completely, and have not (nor will ever, come what may) forgotten about the music (recorded or live), or the people who let me do the best job in the world, I am tremendously lucky to be doing this and my biggest thanks goes to you for making it happen. I promise to make it up to you, somehow!
I,ll be updating my twitter all the time while we’re on the road (I,m kind of addicted to that) and I’m on facebook and myspace (myspace.com/davyknowles) would be great to hear from you!
Davy

Davy - Keep your eye on the prize, the music. Any chance you can sneak down to Martha’s Vineyard before/after your gig at Higher Ground in Vermont and play? Some folks from Nectar’s in Burlington just leased the old Hot Tin Roof (Carly’s place)and are seeking bookings.

Just more money with a bigger management company, right?

Hey Davy,
Sorry to see your only Canadian stops are in Thunder Bay and Fredrickton this tour. I saw/heard BDS for the first time in NY, NY at a small club in Manhattan last April and was hoping to see you guys again. Maybe next tour! Keep up the great work, you guys are insanely talented!

Davy: I loved your first album and tours with the original BDS so very much. I wish I could say the same for your new album. It’s polished; your voice is amazing… But I think you’ve turned your back on your blues-rock roots, and a bit of excitement has gone out of my life. Best of luck to you. I’ll cross my fingers that you reconnect with the amazing blues guitar virtuosity that made you (and the original boys from Isle of Man) so very many new fans in the past two years. (If you want examples of what I miss, see the YouTube vids of BDS doing Ain’t No City at the Gaiety and Hendrix’s Red House at SXSW08.)

Davy,
The business you are in comes with punishing and cruel moments. The musician is often trapped between the fans that love his music and the oftentimes ruthless management that pulls strings. Feelings get hurt and emotions escalate. It’s spilled milk.
Do the best you can Davy. Take it to heart, keep it there…......and don’t go numb.
Krystine and I will see you in Aurora, Ft. Wayne, Madison, Milwaukee and Rothbury. I will be the old guy in the first row acting like a fourteen year old schoolgirl!
Love ya bro.

Hey Davy,
Saw BDS for the first time at BD Riley’s Irish Pub at SXSW in 2007. I was there for no particular reason and then I met Lenny. Lenny walked up to me and handed me a t-shirt and told me I was lucky to have a place inside this bar. I was about to hear something amazing. And when you guys played - I was blown away. I was an instant fan. Saw you many times in between and then at Antone’s in 2008. I was the blonde girl right up front cheering the whole time. You are so immensely talented and you are to be admired. Every time you come to Colorado, I make sure i don’t miss a gig and always get my friends out to hear what they have been missing. Keep doing what you love, because it shows in everything you do. Best of luck - see you at Red Rocks on July 22. I’m always the fan up front with a big big smile - Take care -

Davy, just watched you and Christine playing ‘Sweet Little Mystery’ - One of the finest covers I’ve heard in a good while. Great vocal harmonies

Davey, you were such a gentleman to me in Atlanta! Evan as well. I loved helping out with the merchandise while watching you play all of those riffs…awesome!! I will be in Branson to do it again. Can’t wait! The plane ticket is already bought. Here’s to wishing you a very successful tour this summer!

I really enjoyed your first show at riverbend. It’s a shame I won’t be able to see the second one. I’ve been a fan since I saw you all last year at the nightfall concert here in Chattanooga, and hope you guys come back as soon as you can!

I will be coming over to Nashville on Tuesday from Knoxville. Why? Because PF recommended to his fans to check out the new act that he produced. The last Blues act that he recommended was Joe Bonamassa, and it seems like the man has a way with premonitions soo see you there. Have a safe trip up 24

I really can’t wait to see you in NYC!!! 2 weeks!! What an amazing musician you are!! Good luck on this new phase of your career. But just to be safe, don’t forget to wish good morning or afternoon to the Fairy Bridge,

Just saw Davy and Back Door Slam last night at 3rd Lindsley. Great show! You are better every time I see you. Love the new band.

When they swept up the floor at 3rd and Lindsey last night they found a jaw or two rolling around. One of them was mine. Please return if you can. CD just flows, brought me all the way back to Knoxville with 3 spins.

Davy,
You blew away your already loyal fan base at World Cafe/XPN last night. It was so good to hear you again, and the new band is brilliant! And I didn’t even have to play hookie from work this time to see you! Have been listening to the new CD since I got into my car after the concert. Send my best to Amber. See you all at Musikfest in Bethlehem in August!!!

Davy -
I was at your show last night in NYC and WOW you guys rocked the house, absolutely incredible. Your guys’ jams were amazing, soul-ripping explosions of sound. Please do more shows in New York or near Ann Arbor, Michigan, we’d love to have you!

Davy: The CD Release Party in Phila was phenomenal. We’re all still in shock from the experience. “Almost Cut My Hair” was stunning. The best part, though, was seeing you smiling all through the show. It’s obvious you truly love the music, and I hope you continue to enjoy performing for a long, long time. Hope to see you at Musikfest! Peace out, PSJ

Davy,
I had been looking forward to seeing you at the Aurora Blues Fest for some time. I saw you open for Chickenfoot and couldn’t wait to here you plugged in. When I found out that due to the weather the fest was cancelled I was bummed. We went to Ballydoyle’s anyway and were surprised to find out you were playing there. What a treat to see you that evening. I bought the new CD and you happily signed and posed for a picture. It is very refreshing to see such a talented musician be so humble and an all around great guy. Will see you at the Chicago Theatre with the Foot again.
Rock on Brother,

Just heard you on the Bob and Tom Show, and have to say that you take me WAAAY back, all the way to Robin Trower. I’m glad to know that the heart of blues rock is beating strong in the chests of younger generations. Guitar, bass, drums, solid vocals - that’s all you need.
Keep the faith!

Davy and Company…...Dahmmm Son! Just saw you on the Bob and Tom show, sooo friggen exciting…I looked up your gig by me in Tahoe and I’ll be there. How I love blue eyed soul like yours! I think you and Joss Stone should hook up and have millions of little blues babies! LOL>...see you in Tahoe, telling everyone I know about you guys!

Davy, I’m just a fan from Philly area, who saw you twice now at World cafe, and am still recovering from the CD release party on june 15th. Wow! I hate to seem harsh, but I don’t mean this to hurt any feelings. When I saw you with your original band, I always felt you were just on another level than those guys, and that you had a lot more talent and creativity waiting to be unleashed. And now seeing you with the new band, and listening to the new CD, I was certainly correct. You seem to click much more with this band, and as they are excellent musicians, they make your playing better too. And as for the new CD, just as I suspected. This one has much more diversity and creativity within it, and is much more refined and balanced. The music is more great vocals, and not dominated by your powerful guitar work. But yet, you still kick ass in your solos causing goose bumps and jaw dropping, while driving in between with your strong rhythm work. I think you should hold on to your seat, cause this year is going to launch you in to fast forward to the big time busy schedules and bookings. Congrats! Hope you will still return to us at World Cafe after you hit the big (bigger) time! Stay focused on what your true passion is, Davy. It will always keep you truly satisfied with your life, my friend. Hope your previous band doesn’t take insult to these comments, but I suspect, they feel in their hearts, it was inevitable too.

Great work on the new CD! Davy, Seems like you are really connecting with, not only the new band, but your new PRS and Budda Rig. Saw you @ World cafe twice, including June 15 CD release party. Freakin awesome, as usual! Really good to see you exploring all that unknown talent of yours. Slide playing on both the PRS and your resonator is powerful and flawless. Fingerpicking on Amber’s Song magnificently moving and inspiring. And your connection with the new band, especially your new keyboardist, is exhilirating. Also, your vocals remain powerful and full of soul. And, as always, your fierce passion and intensity is bone-chilling. I’ve never experienced that much passion and intensity in anyone’s playing before. I’m a big SRV fan, of course, and while I never thought I’d see a level of passion like that again in my lifetime, I stood 5 feet from Davy Knowles with my jaw on the floor, goose-bumps and chills, after the first song. Plus your incredibly infectious smiling and happiness is worth being in your presence—alone! Watching you have the best night of your life is the most exhilirating experience, underneath your music. Words can’t do it justice, my friend. Just hope your life brings all you you need with love and family, but never stop living your passion in life. The emptiness you would feel would haunt you forever. SO KEEP THOSE FINGERS PLAYIN’ AND THAT VOICE A SINGIN’! Congrats and best wishes. See you back in Philly soon, I hope.

To anyone that will listen…I didn’t think that Davy, PK and Steve could reach a higher place than the impromptu show they did in Aurora, IL on June 19th. Man, was I wrong! The guys destroyed a huge crowd that had gathered in Milwaukee at Summerfest on June 30th. They were opening for Buddy Guy and honestly, I felt sorry for Buddy and his band to have to follow such a magificent performance as the one that we saw when Davy and BDS hit the stage. Words just can’t describe what I and hundreds of others witnessed. I consider Davy a good friend of mine and I’ve told him before that no one has thrilled people since Rory Gallagher like he does. Here’s a few videos and pictures as proof to what I just said:
“Opening Jam” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqaPswqWJLs
“Riverbed” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h2yw4KBvyTM

I saw you at summerfest and you blew me away. I totally agree with Roy that words can not describe what I had the pleasure to witness. I just hope that you will cut a live album, it is the only way to capture your incredible energy and skills. I love your albums but your live show are truely incredible. WOW I still have goosebumps.
A really big fan!

As promised, here is the other two songs that I recorded of Davy, PK and Steve from their Milwaukee Summerfest show on June 30th,2009:
“What In The World” Part 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOpn9OoFuiY
“What In The World” Part 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNepbRJcp78
“Walk On Hot Coals” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=clUUOruVU7s
I must tell you all, I’ve never seen anyone play “Walk On Hot Coals” like this except for the laet, great Rory Gallagher whom I was fortunate to see live twice in the early ‘70s. On this night, Rory must have been looking down from above with a huge smile on his face when the guys played his song. Man, did this bring back memories…...All I can say is, FANTASTIC!!
Enjoy,
Roy
